PER KIRKEBY
Ausgewählte Werke von 1979 bis 2013
June 11 to July 12, 2013
Gallery Thomas Knoell presents an exhibition with images, sculptures, drawings, and monotypes by Danish artist Per Kirkeby (*1938) opening June 10, 2013 in Basel. The exhibition unites more than 80 works and includes paintings and sculptures from the early 1980s to the present day.
We are delighted to present this comprehensive exhibition of the artist in Basel, following retrospective exhibitions at the Tate Modern in London, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf, the Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art in Duisburg and at the Philips Collection in Washington.
The exhibition spans three rooms at the centrally located Erasmushaus on the Bäumleinsgasse 18 across from the former Gallery Beyeler. This exhibition is the most comprehensive in Switzerland since “Per Kirkeby – Kristall. Reflexionen, Beziehungen und Bezüge” at the Aargauer Kunsthaus in 2006. Some works will be publicly exhibited for the first time at this event.
Per Kirkeby is a painter, poet, sculptor, and researcher. He is considered one of the most outstanding European artists and the most significant contemporary Danish artist. His oeuvre has been presented in numerous major museums and his art is represented in important public collections (Tate Gallery, London; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris).
An accompanying catalogue with an essay by Beat Wismer, general director of the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf will be published on the occasion of the exhibition.
The exhibition runs from June 11 to July 12, 2013.
